Learn Spring with the most modern and comprehensive course available for Spring Framework 5 and Spring Boot 2. You will see how to build multiple real world applications using Spring Framework 5.

This is the only major Spring Framework course on Udemy developed completely on version 5 of the Spring Framework.

Perfect course to start with Spring Boot applications. It could be even better if you include some basic Spring Security materials in it for us just to be familiar for what the next steps will be.

It was a really good experience to learn through this course. It follows the great short-project based demonstration, which helped a lot to learn. Really cool stuff and best industry practices. The best part of this course is how John uses the VCS and maintain the project life cycle, uses CI build, docker and all.

Half of the star is missing just because I wished it would have a section on some advance stuff like caching using Hibernate,Spring Security and Spring Cloud??

Thanks John and still waiting for the lectures on above sections??

this course exceeded my expectations, I learnt a lot about different technologies that are currently using in the it industry. (Still waiting for the spring security section). It took me like a year to finish this course, well, because it’s a lot of information, and mainly because of my job. But overall I’m confident this course will land you in the right path.

The course is good for beginners. It was not useful to me, the most staff I was already familiar with. Nevertheless, a great effort was made by John Thompson and gratitude is due. I did buy few more courses from this author.

The course is robust and comprehensive. Author made a huge job. I would like to see topic about Transaction Management in the course

Had a pleasure to take this course, erased my gaps in Spring, thanks for the course.

Coming towards the end, a lot of time spent on thymeleaf edition, troubleshooting. Things to improve:

– Stories can be written from a functional point of view (Business logic) and not technical steps.

– The content flow could be improved. We started with pet clinic, then jumped to jokes app and then back to pet clinic.

– Though it is a Spring course, a lot of times is unnecessarily spent on Thymeleaf template edition, troubleshooting etc…

I liked the course, it was practical based and not theoretical. I guess I can alwys go away and do that stuff myself.

The “flow” of the course needs looking at, it seemed to jump about a bit, eg sticking Maven in the middle of stuff and Git.

Great Job, thanks a lot.

Very good Spring 5 course. Author talks about lot of different technologies. I like that sometimes we use maven, then gradle, then back to maven. Content is huge, but every video clip is worth watching.

– sleepy voice & low volume in course lectures compared with Petclinic lectures (very flat voice)

– I think content can be organized in 20 hours not 50

– some concepts can be better covered (ex. BeanPostProcessors, beans lifecycle, some annotation’s are not explained at the end is Spring course not Spring boot)

– many discussions related with different topics but not Spring (ex. most of the time to discuss about recipes & ingredients application not about MVC)

– reactive streams are explained in a wrong way

Too much repetition. A lot of stuff that is not related to Spring is included in the videos:

Showing identical tests tens of times is boring. There are big portions of video-fragments that do not pass any knowledge. I believe the course can be shrunk to 1/5 of the length.

Some of the techniques are not compliant with the latest “Effective Java” from Joshua Bloch.

Using mutating operation List::add to fill “closed-over” list from within a stream is not a good practice.

Using isPresent() on optional in an if-statement is just as using != null. Not idiomatic.

Editing Thymeleaf gets boring.

Context switching between projects is not appropriate for teaching.

The course feels like the author has screen-recorded his day-to-day work for 2 weeks. It shouldn’t be that way. The idea of a specialized course is to provide more knowledge for less time. Students’ time should be appreciated. Also, we do not need to know several different ways of doing something. We need to know the best practices.

Otherwise, I give 3/5 because the author has put a lot of effort to build this course and his time should be appreciated.

Feedback: Often the videos start with “I created a few xxx”, which are not contained in the “starting source” for the video, which makes it really hard if you want to follow along with coding. Also I see suspiciously many “shameless stealing” for the petclinic app – I don’t judge, but would be nice to know how to figure stuff on your own.

a bit hard to understand at first, but then found it a good course to learn spring framework from scrach

Thank you! You have successfully submitted feedback for this review.
This course gave me very good and solid explanation of Spring Boot foundation concepts/basics and than very comprehensive and powerful knowledge about what I can do and achieve with framework.

Thank you Mr. John Thompson, this course work over a million times more than it’s course. I indeed feel like a guru. Although I will visiting most of the topics again, I can really testify that I had value for my money.
